June in Florence...It’s not only about tourists lining up around the block to get into a museum or grab a panino at the legendary "All'Antico Vinaio "… there is also a splash of colour offered by THE event of the month: Pitti Uomo 92
The city is besieged by the almost surreal frenzy of the “Pitti-people” – an ocean of sculpted beards, hats, bags, cuffed trousers and ankles in full view. It’s like an amusement park for fashion addicts and professionals.
Everybody is capturing the moment by taking selfies and photos of the displays in shop windows.
Everybody is frantically trying to land an invitation to the main event of the day and making sure they post on all the social networks.
But Pitti also brings customers who want to discover the authentic Florence which not even the exclusive events of Pitti Immagine can eclipse.
So we’re off to delve into the narrow streets of the city’s Oltrarno district (thank heavens those little streets are all sheltered from the sun...)
It is here that we can find the marvelous treasures created by the city’s master artisans in shops that are not invaded by buyers and bloggers: the striped canvas striped canvas once used to upholster a sun lounger is now on that stylish handbag and belt – perfect accessories for a day at the beach or a lazy day in the city.
We’re shopping around for contemporary interior décor ideas, we slip into an small art gallery to escape the heat for a while and we discover the timeless beauty of Florentine artistry.
Shopping bags in tow, we even find time to have a personalised tour of the Torrigiani gardens one of Italy’s largest private gardens.
Our hosts are very gracious and we feel very pampered here.
One last stop: a chilled glass of Prosecco and a truffle sandwich at Procacci, the temple of Florentine haute gastronomie.
Thank you to all my special guests and to Florence at its most authentic!
